Abstract
The article analyses Tabucchi's strategies, with particular attention to the use of paratext as a structural element of his works. Titles, subtitles and notes create a margin of permeability, keeping his texts open and inviting the reader to embark on a journey rather than simply taking note. Central to this is the deliberate confusion between biographical truth and narrative fiction, often mediated by “other people's autobiographies” or “reflections of autobiography” intentionally attenuated to postulate doubt. Tabucchi's poetics always seek the “reverse” of things, focusing on what is hidden, unsaid or only suggested. From this perspective, the essay highlights Tabucchi's profound modernity, entrusting the reader's questions with the task of completing the meaning of his writings.
